An ice festival is to take place on the frozen Khar-Us Lake in Khovd province, which is located in the far west of Mongolia. Called “Mungulug Shagshuurga” – meaning “Silver Reed Cluster” – the event will take place at on 24-25 February.
During the ice festival, the national uriankhai archery championships will be held along with provincial championships including cross-country racing, sumo competition and tug-o-war. There will also be a dance competition.
Awards will be presented for the best dressed couple in traditional atire, the child wearing the best ‘deel’ (Mongolian tunic) as well as couples with the best horse and camel.
