The most pleasant time of the year for Mongolians is Tsagaan Sar (the traditional Mongolian Lunar New Year). It is also particularly pleasant for our domestic food manufacturers as they are busiest at this time.

Tsagaan Sar is the holiday on which Mongolian citizens spend the most money. According to an MMCG survey, the average Mongolian family spent over MNT 1 million for this holiday – an increase of MNT 72 thousand on the previous year. The survey involved 1000 homes from Mongolia’s 21 provinces and the 9 districts of Ulaanbaatar.

According to the National Statistics Office, there were 380 thousand households in Ulaanbaatar in the end of 2016; of these, 80 percent celebrated Tsagaan Sar – one family spent MNT 1,135,967. The total budget for celebrating Tsagaan Sar is estimated at MNT 350 billion for Ulaanbaatar homes.
