A group of 36 Mongolian pilots from MIAT (Mongolian national airlines) has been conducting flights on the route between Haiti and Chile for two months. The pilots have been working in Chile under an agreement between MIAT and Sunrise airlines.
‘Back at home in Mongolia, thick smoke from Ulaanbaatar’s chronic winter air pollution causes difficulties for pilots; however, there are few cases of flight delays’, said state-honoured pilot G.Munkh-Ochir. ‘Generally, pilots can see landing strips at a distance of 18 km. When air-pollution increases, the distance is lowered to 5-6 km.’
