The Confederation of Mongolian Journalists (CMJ) has elected a new president to lead the non-government organisation for the next four years.

The participants of the congress elected Kh.Mandakhbayar, editor of the ‘Zindaa’ magazine as the successor to B.Galaarid with 87.5 percent through a secret poll.

The new president has a very full action plan, including measures such as developing professional and independent journalism, improving journalistic ethics, implementing a 1000-apartment programme for journalists, including journalists in risk, insurance, strengthening the legal environment surrounding journalism, making structural changes in the CMJ and expanding the foreign relations of the CMJ.

His rivals in the poll were D.Enkhtuya, founder of TV-2 channel, and T.Oyun-Erdene, member of the National Board of the Mongolian National Broadcaster. Although nominated, L.Ninjjamts, Director of the Mongolian National Public Radio and Television and senior journalist U.Khurelbaatar, withdrew their names from the poll.
