The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that no Mongolian was injured in the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck Hualien City in Taiwan on 6 February. At least 31 Mongolian students have been living in Hualien. The Ministry reports that the students have now been safely evacuated to Taipei.
The Focus Taiwan news-agency reports that the military is conducting search and rescue missions. Nine people have been killed and over 250 injured. Over 50 people are yet unaccounted for.
Over 100 aftershocks have been reported in the wake of the quake, including a magnitude 5.7 earthquake that occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday about 19 km (11 miles) northeast of Hualian.
