Secondary school teachers were demonstrating on Friday about a salary increase outside the IMF Representative Office in Ulaanbaatar. Such demonstrations have been held regularly since Mongolia started receiving aid from the IMF. Under the IMG extended fund facility agreement, the government had agreed not to increase wages and to keep them fixed throughout 2018.
Teachers are demanding a 50% salary increase, protestors have threatened to strike, and some to even go on hunger strike if their demands were not met.
