Last week, the Mongolian parliament approved amendments to the banking law; over 150 changes have been made.

The most important change clearly was the removal of the enactment of banking law which allows banks to establish subsidiary companies. This amendment was approved in 2010.

The government has given a deadline to banks of until 31 December to  close down their subsidiary companies. However, banks still retain the rights to provide counselling and giving financial advice.
