Travel is more than an opening for good will, writes Ethical Traveller. It is one of the world’s most powerful economic engines, and can drive the way countries treat their citizens, indigenous peoples, wildlife and the environment. Travel is the world’s largest industry, with a trillion-dollar annual footprint. This means that travellers have enormous power.
Every year, Ethical Traveller reviews the policies and practices of over one hundred developing nations. The non-profit organisation then selects the ten that are doing the most impressive job in promoting human rights, preserving the environment and supporting social welfare – all the while creating a lively, community-based tourism industry. Since 2016, Mongolia has been included on the list of the World’s Ten Best Ethical Destinations which is released by Ethical Traveller. The awards ceremony was held in Berkeley, California on 13 January. E.Galbadrakh, the General Consulate of Mongolia to San Francisco participated in the event.
