The ‘Mothers against Air Pollution’ NGO is calling for a lie down protest against air-pollution on Ulaanbaatar’s Sukhbaatar square on 13 January at 12.00 p.m. The NGO organised several demonstrations during December, when the Mongolian capital’s air quality reached a level five times worse than Beijing. This shift symbolises the “hopelessness” of Ulaanbaatar residents to a situation shows no sign of improvement and officials seem unable to take urgent and efficient action.
Since 2004, the Mongolian government has spent over MNT 200 billion in fighting air-pollution in Ulaanbaatar.
