Japan’s ABEMA TV offered a prize of JPY 10 million to anyone who could defeat former Mongolian sumo champion ‘Asashoryu’ in a New Year special on December 31st.  During the show, ‘Asashoryu’, whose Mongolian name is D.Davgadorj, won JPY 10 million or USD 88,200 after defeating all of his challengers.

After seven years of his retirement from sumo, Grand Champion D.Dagvadorj beat all eight opponents.  These included Bob Sapp, who is a Mixed Martial Artist from the USA, the sumo wrestler Ozeki Kotomitsuki, and Judoka Hiroshi Izumi, who is an Olympic silver medalist in judo.

‘Asashoryu’ – D.Davgadorj – is the 68th yokozuna in the history of the sport in Japan and was the first Mongol to reach sumo’s highest rank in January 2003.

He retired from professional competition in February 2010.
