At the end of each year, professional press bodies traditionally give awards to people and particular events of the past 12 months. News.mn has been naming “Person of the Year” since 2004.

This year, we have decided to name Mongolian President Kh.Battulga as Person of the Year for 2017.

Kh.Battulga was born on 3 March, 1963. He was Member of the State Great Khural from 2004 to 2016 and was Minister of Roads, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development from 2008 to 2012. Kh.Battulga is serving as Mongolia’s 5th President.

Kh.Battulga graduated from Art School, but rose to fame as wrestler and was a member of the Mongolian National wrestling team from 1979 to 1990. Kh.Battulga won the world cup championship in Ulaanbaatar in 1989. When Mongolia became a democracy, he became a businessman. His businesses include a hotel, a Chinggis Khaan-themed amusement park, and two big food companies; namely ‘Talkh chiker’ JSC baked goods and ‘Makh Impex’ JSC meats. His Genco Tour Bureau JSC is one of the most successful companies on the Mongolian Stock Exchange.
