The Mongolian Health Ministry has decided to vaccinate children who live in the most air-polluted areas of Ulaanbaatar to prevent pneumonia. Children aged between 2 and 9 months will receive a pneumonia vaccine. Air standards are poorest in the Bayanzurkh, Songinokhairkhan and Sukhbaatar districts. Furthermore, all children will get the pneumonia vaccine in 2018. The vaccination is expected to cost the Health Ministry MNT 1 billion.
According to statistics, 42 percent of children who have been brought to hospital for treatment are suffering from pneumonia.
