Ulaanbaatar Mayor S.Batbold has supported several solutions for decreasing the increasingly bad traffic jams which plague the Mongolian capital.  One of the most notable steps will be relocating the Mongolian University of Science and Technology to  Baganuur. Although one of Ulaanbaatar’s nine districts, Baganuur is located 138 km from the capital and is a large town. Earlier today, an important regional development action plan was approved by the State Great Khural (parliament) to make Baganuur the centre of Mongolia by 2030.

Meaning ‘small lake’, Baganuur consists of four districts of its own and is located in an exclave on the border to the Tov and Khentii Aimags (provinces). The town originally grew to service a large mine.

According to Minister of Construction and Urban Development Kh.Badelkhan, the plan of moving the university out of Ulaanbaatar was approved in 2015. There are plans for other universities to also be relocated.
