The ‘Ice Challenge 2017’, was held at Gorkhi-terelj National Park on the weekend. The ice climbing championships competition was organised by the Mongolian Mountaineering Federation for developing the sport of in Mongolia and preparing to participate in the new category of ice climbing in the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games.
The ice climbing competition was held with two evaluation criteria, namely speed and technique among three age groups.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in what has been described as “the most comprehensive evolution of the Olympic programme in modern history,” is adding five new sports at the Tokyo Olympics. In addition to competitive climbing, there will also be softball, skateboarding, karate and surfing.
