The Mongolian State Great Khural (parliament) has approved an amendment to the Law on the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Political Oppression regarding the granting of compensation. The debate and approval took place on 14 December. The original law was passed in 1998 and 28,260 of the nearly 36 thousand victims of political repression have been rehabilitated.
However, the validity period of the law has expired. Subsequently, Deputy Speaker Ya.Sanjmyatav and MP N.Enkhbold drafted an amendment which is projected to spend MNT 15.5 billion for granting compensation to the victims of political repression. The law will be in force for a further two years as a result of which, nearly 400 victims of political repression and their descendants will receive compensation.
