The net profit of the Erdenet Mining Corporation (EMC), one of the biggest ore mining and processing plants in Asia increased by MNT 278 billion in 2017 after becoming 100 percent Mongolian owned. The Mongolian government, which previously owned 51 percent of the enterprise, purchased 49 percent from Russia’s Rostech Corporation in 2016.
In 2016, the company reported a net profit of MNT 27 billion. EMC produces 130 million tonnes of copper annually; each day it processes 80-90 tonnes of ore and 1700-1800 tonnes of copper concentrate.
Mining experts are expecting the price of copper will stabilise at USD 6500 on the markets, whilst coal and gold prices will fluctuate.
