The National Committee for the Reduction of Environmental Pollution  led by the Prime Minister held an end-of-year  meeting on 13 December.

The National Committee agreed to intensify the removal of steam boilers, increase energy sources, introduce technological innovation in government-run buildings and facilities, increase the number of air quality monitoring stations, provide processed fuel to target groups and run a campaign on heat loss reduction.

Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh stated that air quality in the capital has not noticeably improved despite budget spending of MNT 147 billion and USD 60 in million foreign investment over the last decade. On 20 March the Cabinet adopted a National Programme on the Reduction of Air and Environmental Pollution.

Ulaanbaatar Mayor S.Batbold reported on the implementation of the Cabinet decision and informed that schools and kindergartens located in the most heavily polluted zones will be provided with air purifiers by 20 December, and in other schools and kindergartens in early 2018. The Prime Minister instructed that the air purifiers should meet basic standards, and the expenditure of the MNT 4 billion allocation for this purchase must be transparent.
