Ulaanbaatar Railway has unveiled its first ever express train travel on the route from the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar to Ulan-Ude, the capital city of the Russian Republic of Buryatia and from there to Irkutsk in Siberia, passing Lake Baikal en route. The express train with five carriages runs three times a week  (Monday, Tuesday, Saturday).

D.Jigjidnyamaa, Chairman of the ‘Ulaanbaatar Railway’ Joint Venture said: ‘It has been three years since Mongolia and Russia agreed visa free travel for their passport holders. Thus, the flow of passengers through the Altanbulag border checkpoint has tripled.  In order to create conditions for convenient, comfortable and cheap travel for passengers the company has launched this express train. I believe it will provide a stimulus to the tourism development of Mongolia’.

The price of tickets is expected to decrease as the flow of passengers steadily increases.
