Two fractions of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) held separate congresses at the weekend (9-10 December). The fraction led by the party’s only member in the State Great Khural (parliament), O.Baasankhuu held a congress on Saturday at State House; the other fraction led by the long-standing MPRP leader N.Enkhbayar, met on Sunday at the National Circus.

During the Saturday’s congress, the members voted to replace N.Enkhbayar and elected O.Baasankhuu as new leader of the party. However, the next day, the other fraction declared that O.Baasankhuu is not the true leader.

The MPRP was formed in 2010 by fractions led by N.Enkhbayar. The name is the original name of the party of power during the socialist period which ended in 1990.
