The Citizenship and Migration Authority of Mongolia has reported that 90 percent of visa offenders were in breach of visa extension rules, in other words, they had overstayed the period set in their visas;  some travellers, however, have been arrested for trying to enter Buyant-Ukhaa border zone located within Chinggis Khaan International Airport using fake visa approvals.

Foreign travellers can obtain a 30 days visa at the Buyant-Ukhaa border crossing from countries which do not have a Mongolian consulate or  embassy.  Buyant-Ukhaa is a busy border crossing and issues 50-60 visa approval a day in summer. However the number of visa applications decreases to only around  ten a day in winter. This year, the crossing has  issued visas to nearly 4000 people from 132 countries.
