The defence ministers of South Korea and Mongolia agreed on Thursday to work together to resolve the North Korean nuclear and missile issue in their talks which are currently taking place in Seoul.

The country’s defence chief, Song Yong-moo, asked Mongolia to take an active part in the international community’s sanctions on North Korea for its illicit weapons development.

According to the ministry, Minister Song requested Mongolia to help persuade the North to denuclearize itself in consideration of the country’s traditional diplomatic ties. The statement added that Mongolian Defence Minister N.Enkhbold responded positively.

Several days ago, the Mongolian government took the decision to send the North Korean citizens working in the country back home in line with international policy towards the Pyongyang regime.

Mr Enkhbold was quoted as saying that his government will continue to cooperate with South Korea on the North’s threats to jeopardize the peace and stability of the peninsula and the world. The ministers also agreed to push for the joint expansion of military partnerships and defence industry cooperation.

Minister Enkhbold, who is currently visiting attending a business forum in Seoul, has invited Song Yong-moo to visit Mongolia at a convenient time; the Korean defence minister hopes to be able to come to Ulaanbaatar in the future.
