Mongolia is constructing a new international airport to the south of the capital Ulaanbaatar. The new airport will provide better safety and reliability, good links to the city and will contribute to the economic development of Mongolia. The new international airport is under construction in Khusig Valley, 52 km south of Ulaanbaatar in the Sergelen sum (district) of Tuv Province.
Earlier today (6 December), U.Khurelsukh, Prime Minister of Mongolia received Kazuhiko Koshikawa, president of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and discussed construction of new international airport. The two sides expressed their hope that it will be opened on time. Originally it had been planned to open in 2016, now the planned date for the first flights is August 2018.
Mr Koshikawa has every reason to be interested in the opening date as JICA signed a loan agreement with the Government of Mongolia to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 36.85 billion yen for the Khushig Valley International Airport Construction Project.
