Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh was elected as the head of the ruling Mongolian People Party (MPP) on Tuesday at the party congress.
Mr Khurelsukh won 63 percent of the votes to become the new leader of the MPP at the 28th Party Congress to replace M.Enkhbold, who is the Speaker of the State Great Khural (parliament).
U.Khurelsukh served in the cabinet as the Minister for Emergency Situations from 2004 to 2006, then as Minister for Professional Inspection from 2006 to 2008 and in 2014-2015; following the MPP’s general election victory in 2016 he served as Deputy Prime Minister. He was elected as PM in October 2017.
During the three-day party congress which began last Monday, the participants discussed the political and economic situation, the activities and actions of the party, and future goals.
