The coming academic year will see students entering 102 institutes and universities, instead of the 154 last year. This is because some private centers have been closed down because they did not meet the proper standards and also because the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science merged some state-owned centers in January to bring down their number from 42 to 16,

Some schools including the Police Academy, the Border Military School and the Intelligence Academy, so long run by the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs would now be combined and known as the Domestic Military School. However, the Defense Institute will continue to be independent.
