The Japanese Sumo Federation announced the rankings of the Natsu Basho, the nation's professional sumo wrestling tournament on 1st of May. This is the first time since July 2001 that a Japanese Yokozuna has led the Basho. For all of this period Mongolia has led Japan's national sport. Yokozuna Kisenosato ranked first following Yokozuna Hakuho (Davaajargal) listed in second.

The 16 years of Mongolian hegemony in Japan's top sumo ring, have been dominated by 32-year-old Hakuho. Born Monkhbatryn Davaajargal in Ulaanbaatar, he made his debut in 2001 and became a Yokozuna, the highest rank in professional sumo, in 2007.
