The Press Institution of Mongolia has released an analysis of the ‘Mongolian Media-Today’ survey which has been conducted annually since 1999. According to the study, the number of media organisations in the country has been constantly decreasing over the last decade. From 2012 up to January of 2017, no less than 100 media organisations closed down. Furthermore, the number of printed newspapers decreased by 40 percent and magazines by nearly 60 percent over the last five years. However, the total broadcasting hours of radio has increased by seven hours in a week and eight hours for television.
Nearly 100 media sites were regularly operating in January 2017. There are more than 4700 jobs in media organisations; 50 percent of which are journalists and editors as well as 56 percent who are working for television channels.
