Earlier today (10th of April), on Ulaanbaatar's Independence Square, Mongolian children demonstrated against road accidents. The young demonstrators held many placards with slogans such as ‘Your car is made by iron, but not me!’ and ‘One year – one class’.
The event was part of the ‘Day of Protecting Children from Road Accidents’, which was being held today for the fourth year and is organised by the Mongolian Traffic Police Department (TPD).
According to TPD reports, 1087 children were injured or killed by traffic-related accidents in 2016; the vast majority of them, 89% or 975, in Ulaanbaatar. Nearly 40-50 children die in road accidents in Mongolia every year.
