The 25^th meeting of the Railway Cooperation Organization began yesterday in Ulaanbaatar, bringing together senior officials of railways in the 26 member countries. The previous such meeting in Mongolia was in 1992. Domestic issues are not discussed in this meeting.

The development of railway sector is a major issue for Mongolia now. Will the railroads be broad or narrow?

The meeting is not the place to decide such issues. Member countries will talk about internal matters only in a general way. We shall talk about our development plans and hear any opinion that others may offer.

What about transit transportation between Asia and Europe?

Transit transportation tariffs are set by this meeting. Mermbers also decide on regulations and provisions that affect more than two countries. Our domestic transportation is making losses but transit transportation is relatively profitable. 

What role does Mongolian play in the organization?

UB Railway became a member in 1956. We are one of the first ten members and play an important role.
