The Dornod Region Energy
System has been a reliable source of electricity in the eastern region for 40
years but its 36-mw capacity will not be enough to meet the growing demand that
the expansion in mining will generate. The state-owned organization is aware of
this and its managing officials have recently asked to be allowed to increase
production to 100 mw. The Ministry of Mineral Resource and Energy is
considering the request.
At present, power from the plant
goes to the aimag centers of Dornod and Sukhbaatar and to 22 soums in them.
