Lack of money is holding up
work on the 1100-km railway in the gobi region. The Ministry of Road,
Construction and Urban Development says the project will need between USD2
billion and USD3 billion in four years of construction. The state-owned
Mongolian Railway has been entrusted with the work but it will need to borrow
capital. Investors in the Tavantolgoi deposit will also play an important role
in providing funds, it is generally felt.
