Mongolia’s first ever skew rolling mill has opened at the Darkhan Metallurgical Plant (DMP). It will help to halt the USD 60 million currency out flow from Mongolia. The plant is the result of a range of projects initiated by the previous Democratic Party led parliament to increase export production and replace imports.
The opening ceremony of the rolling mill, which meets euro standards, took place on Saturday (28th of January).
Mongolia currently imports steel balls costing USD 180 million annually. When the skew rolling mill begins production, it will lower purchasing expenses by 10-15 percent. Currently, it produces 100-140mm steel balls by hammering method. The new rolling mill is creating 100 additional jobs.
Accurately forged steel balls have a number of applications, the most important being ball bearings.
