Today, (24^th of January) at the ‘Naiman Sharga’ currency exchange the Mongolian tugrik stood at MNT 2484 against the US dollar. At commercial banks, the tugrik has risen to 2495-2500 against the US dollar.

A rescue team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, this week. Mongolia hopes to receive an assistance programme from the IMF to see it through its current economic woes.

The Mongolian tugrik has weakened to 2720 against the US dollar in November. The Tugrik increased by MNT 250 against the USD, after the Mongolian Bank and Central Bank of Mongolia took urgent action.

According to Mongol Bank, the tugrik’s rate dropped by 24.4 percent in 2016 due to a sharp decrease in foreign investment and export revenue.
