The number of livestock in Mongolia has reached 61.5 million head. The figures for the end of 2016, were released by the National Statistics Committee. The number represents a 9.9 percent or 5562.3 thousand increase compared to the statistics for previous years.
According to the preliminary results, there are 3634.9 thousand horses, 4080.3 thousand cows, 401.3 thousand camels, 27853.4 thousand sheep and 25572.2 thousand goats in Mongolia today.
In percentage terms: Sheep account for 45.3 percent of all livestock, goats 41.6 percent, horses 5.9 percent and camels 0.7 percent. The provinces with the highest number of livestock are Uvurkhangai, Khuvsgul, Arkhangai, Tuv and Bayankhongor aimags.
Mongolia have been counting livestock since 1918.
