His Excellency Masato Takaoka, Japan's new Ambassador to Mongolia, has presented his credentials to President Ts.Elbegdorj. The ceremony took place earlier today (26th of December). Previously, Ambassador Masato Takaoka worked as a Consul-General in Sydney, Australia. He succeeds H.E.Takenori Shimizu, who recently ended his five-year posting to Ulaanbaatar and returned to Tokyo.
Mongolia established diplomatic relation with Japan in 1972. However, relations between the two countries were initially limited due to differences in ideology and social structure. When Mongolia adopted democracy in 1990, relations and cooperation with Tokyo began to grow and blossom. The most recent landmark in the relations between the two countries has been the signing of the bi-lateral Economic Partnership Agreement.
