Mongolian top-ranking judoka of her weight group (48kg), M.Urantsetseg has become the champion of the International Judo Federation's most recent Grand Slam. The 26-year old defeated the world number eight, Jeong Bo-kyeong from South Korean in the final match. In their previous seven encounters, M.Urantsetseg won six and Jeong Bo-kyeong one.

The Grand Slam began with matches in the women’s 48kg, 52kg and 57 kg categories as well as the men’s 60 kg and 66 kg in Tokyo on Friday 2nd of December. The event brings together 337 athletes (193 men and 144 women) from 46 countries.

M.Urantsetseg, an honoured athlete of Mongolia, became champion at the Baku Grand Slam in 2014, going on to win silver medal from the Tokyo Grand Slam in 2013. Last year, she was listed in seventh place at the Tokyo Grand Slam.

Mongolian-born judoka G.Otgontsetseg, who competes for Kazakhstan, is listed in fifth place after being defeated by 21-year old Japanese star Ami Kondo, who is silver medalist from the Rio-Olympics as well as gold and silver medalist of the World Championship.
