Mongolian Erdenet Mining Corporation (EMC) has reported that the company is to recover a USD 10 million debt long-owed by Kazakhstan. EMC supplied a private Kazakh copper concentrate to the value of USD 10 million in the 1990's. The Kazakh company went bankrupt and EMC was unable to receive what it is owed. Since then, many Mongolian presidents have discussed the debt issue during visits in Kazakhstan – but without any results.
The Kazakh government, however, has finally been agreed to compensate EMC with the USD 10 million directly. Since July, EMC has been under 100% Mongolian ownership.
