Following the ASEM (Asia-European summit meeting), the next big event Ulaanbaatar is to host is the XI International Congress of Mongolists (ICM). the opening ceremony of which takes place at Mongolia's Government House today (15th August). During the ceremony, awards named after Academic B.Renchin, are being presented to some Mongolists. Under the theme ‘Mongolian Studies and Sustainable Development’, the ICM will last for four days. In total 400 academics from 29 countries will have discussions under such themes as ‘Linguistic Studies’, ‘Studies in History and Archaeology’, ‘Studies in Arts and Culture’, ‘Socio-Economic Studies' and ‘Studies in Civilization and Regional Relations’.
The Congress is organized in collaboration with the Mongolian Academy of Science, the National Council for Mongolian Studies, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia as well as top Mongolian universities such as MSUE, the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology and the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture.
According to the International Mongolian Studies Federation, the ICM has been taking place once every five years under the auspices of the President of Mongolia since 1959.
