The XXXI Summer Olympics started in Rio de Janiero, Brasil on 5th of August. On the first day, international master of sports G.Otgontsetseg won a bronze medal in judo in the women’s 48 kg category for Kazakhstan.
According to the Kazakhstan's Ministry of Culture and Sport, the government will award bonuses for Olympic Games prize winners: a three-room apartment and USD 250,000 for gold medal, two-room apartment and USD 150,000 for a silver as well as apartment and USD 75,000 for a bronze.
Female ranking of the judokas in the 48 kg category is led by Mongolian judoka M.Urantsetseg with 3180 points and G.Otgontsetseg who ranks 9th with 1258 points. According to the rules, the first 22 international ranking judokas are allowed to compete at the Olympics. Due to the strict regulations to have only one judoka per weight category the Mongolian team faced a dilemma – what to do with G.Otgontsetseg? The Mongolian Judo Federation had to accept Kazakhstan proposal to take G.Otgontsetseg as a "legionaire".
Over 100 athletes from Kazakhstan are representing their country at Rio 2016. This is the nation's sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. In the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Kazakhstan ranked 12th with seven gold, one silver, and five bronze medals.
