The Ambassador of Mongolia to Japan His Excellency S.Khurelbaatar has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, the highest honour bestowed to anyone in the name of the Japanese Emperor. The award, for services to Japanese-Mongolian relations, was presented by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday 7 November.
Ambassador S.Khurelbaatar has been contributing to developing cooperation and good relations between Japan and Mongolia for over 40 years. He served as his country’s ambassador to Tokyo from1997-2001 and 2012-2017.
The Order of the Rising Sun was established in 1875 by the Emperor Meiji of Japan. Featuring the rays of sunlight from the rising sun, the order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese government, and was created on 10 April 1875 by decree of the Council of State.
