Winter has come to Mongolia with massive snowfalls. Road conditions in some parts of the country are icy and dangerous for driving. Snowfall and strong wind is expected in most regions over the coming days causing drifitng; therefore the public are being urged to avoid travelling with their own cars and, if they must, drive with care and attention especially in traffic.
In Ulaanbaatar, the snow has caused traffic congestion and the ice has transformed some roads into ice rinks. The city administration is working hard to alleviate the traffic jams: snow clearing equipment is in operation and 12.5 tonnes of salt and two tonnes of other substances have been spread on the roads. Nevertheless, the situation on the capital’s roads remains treacherous.
