Former spy chief D.Gerel is to return as the new director of Mongolia’s Central Intelligence Service (CIS). The new appointment was made following a meeting of the Cabinet earlier today (1 November).
The CIS answers directly to the Prime Minister. Dissatisfied with the controversial figure of incumbent intelligence chief B.Khurts, PM U.Khurelsukh, presented the replacement to Cabinet. Last week, B.Khurts conflicted with MP Ts.Nyamdorj over the S.Zorig murder case and the Erdenet Mining Company purchase.
D.Gerel worked as a chief of CIS from 2012 to 2013.
