Former MP and Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party’s presidential nominee, S.Ganbaatar has been accused of receiving SKW 50 million (USD 44,359) from a South Korean citizen during the 2017 presidential election.
Ulaanbaatar’s Bayanzurkh District Criminal Court found S.Ganbaatar, Deputy Chairman of Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP), guilty of bribery on 30 October. In an open session, Judge S.Usukhbayar, ruled that the politician had violated the Mongolian Election Law by accepting the SKW 50 million bribe from a Korean national.
S.Ganbaatar was fined MNT 1 million 440 thousand, a sum equaling the minimum monthly wage multiplied six times. The court also ordered the General Election Commission to remove S.Ganbaatar’s name as the MPRP candidate in the 2017 Presidential election, and transfer the Korean money to the State Treasury.
