Mongolia annually imports 550,000
tons of foodstuff and food products, packed and uncooked, from 60 countries.
The State Specialized Inspecting Agency, which gets to analyze around 40% of the
imports, has said 53.6% of the items tested did not meet approved standards.
Green products sold in open markets often have excess nitrite, while junk and
canned food, flour, rice, green tea, cucumbers, bananas and potato have shown
chemical residues of pesticide and fertilizer.
