Traffic jams have become common because many roads are being repaired and widened. The city authorities have instructed all involved in the work that all roads must be opened to traffic before Naadam. On Monday a team led by the Head of the Ulaanbaatar Citizens’ Representative Assembly, T.Bilegt, made an inspection of some major construction spots.

Ulaanbaatar Road Maintenance Company is renovating the 2.5-kilometer stretch from Tavan Shar crossing to Orbit crossing under the Government recoverable costs conditions. So far 1.64 kms have been paved, the pavement laid, and lighting installed. Soon the 700-meter stretch from Tavan Shar crossing to railroad crossing #396 will be closed. It will be widened to 21 meters and will have six lanes. However, the company fears it may not finish work by Naadam as its progress is being impaired by the work undertaken by Boorchi Co. which has been shifting heating pipes underground by building a tunnel  32 meters long, six meters wide and 2.3 meters in the same area.

Two companies, Chi Chi Ha Ar and Berkh Zaraa, are sharing work on the 10.6-km road around Tovchoo #22 under the Government recoverable costs conditions. At present they are laying five flood water drainage pipes on a 4.3-km stretch and hope the road will be ready before Naadam but they are not sure if laying one pipe to the central road will be done by then.

The Head of the City’s Auto Road Agency D.Od has said a total of 46 road projects have been taken up this year, of which 15 are under government conditions of recoverable costs. Most of these are on the main roads.

Several different works with money from the city budget are being done in the area between 10th block to Sapporo circle. Trees are being planted, sewage pipes are being laid, pavements are being built, and street lighting is being installed. The city budget will pay for some more works such as building dams in the 4th and 5th khoroos of Songinokhairkhan district, a 2.5-kilometer long road and a 33-meter-long bridge.
