President Ts.Elbegdorj discussed on Friday the present situation in the country with U.Enkhtuvshin and Su. Batbold, head and deputy head respectively of the MPP group in Parliament, and their DP group counterparts, Ch.Saikhanbileg, and L.Gantumur. He congratulated the leaders of the MPP group on their recent election and asked both parties to see that the regular work of Parliament is not disrupted because of inter-party differences, like the present one over the draft election law.

He made three other proposals on Parliament’s agenda. The first was that the draft law on financing higher education by offering stipends to students should be discussed in the current session, as it affects more than 60 percent of Mongolian households.

The second related to five draft laws related to judicial reform. He would like this package also to be discussed in the current session.

The President asked both group to focus on the fuel situation. They should review the pros and cons of the state taking over the wholesale oil trade, leaving private companies to do the retailing. He also stressed the need to have an oil refinery.

The MPP group head explained that it was the Speaker`s prerogative to decide what issues will be discussed in the remaining days of the present session.
