The team set up by the DP group in Parliament failed at
their closed-door meeting today to find any common ground with the MPP on
changes to the election system. The DP group favors 50 MPs to be elected on the
proportional method and the remaining 26 to be directly elected. The MPP,
however, does not want to carry reforms so far. It has called for 26 MPs to be
elected on the basis of total votes cast for parties and the 50 others to be
chosen as they are now, in direct election with the candidate polling the
majority vote the winner.

The DP group also decided to stay away from any plenary
session of Parliament.
