The Standing Committee on State Structure, the Civil Chamber of the
President, the Women’s Union of Social Democracy, the Democratic Women Union,
and the Civil Will-Green Party jointly organized a discussion in the Civil
Chamber on Wednesday on gender equality in the draft law on election to
Parliament. All 73 male MPs had been invited but the Chief of the standing committee,
J.Sukhbaatar, was the only one to come.
Participants noted the need for women to prepare themselves for a political
role to refute the usual male argument that women could not compete with men in
education and skill. DWU Head Ts.Oyungerel read a paper on financial support to
women in an election, underlining the fact that political parties choose
candidates who are able to spend more.
