Taking part in the discussion on
amendments to the law banning exploration and exploitation in river and forest
basins, G.Bayarsaikhan has told Parliament that the law is absolutely necessary
to protect the country’s nature and environment. He suspected that some MPs who
had links with mining companies inconvenienced by the law were behind the
proposed amendments.

He urged them to place national
interests above commercial ones, saying no extent of rehabilitation could
return a dried-out river to its original state. He would take up the issue at international
forums if the Government did not implement the law, and if the amendments were
approved.
