Premier S.Batbold was among the leaders of 40 countries who
attended the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2011 on June 12-13 in Jakarta,
Indonesia. The theme of the forum was “Responding to the New Globalism”, and
the around 600 participants discussed issues like climate change, food security,
energy needs, natural disasters, unequal allocation of income, and imbalance in
the economic development of countries.

Batbold was one of the five members of a sub-committee to discuss how an Asian
mechanism could be developed to respond to a global crisis. Batbold highlighted
the importance of regular high-level dialogue to be ready for any problem
facing East Asian countries. He said, “Mongolia is rich in mineral resources, but
we are a country of livestock herding, too, and can become a big food supplier
in the future.”

Apart from the general interaction during the forum, the Premier met several
other leaders on its sidelines. They included the Prime Minister of Singapore,
Lee Hsien Loong, representatives of the EU, the Indonesian Ministers of Trade
and Energy, and officials of large global companies.
