Parliament Speaker D.Demberel
received on Friday a delegation of the U.S. Congress led by Congressman David
Dreier. He told the delegation, visiting Mongolia as part of the “Partners in
Democracy” program of the U.S. Congress, that the Mongolian parliament and
people appreciated the steady support from the U.S. Congress for developing and
strengthening democratic governance in Mongolia. He hoped the visit of the
Mongolian President to the USA would carry forward bilateral relations through
high-level meetings and talks. He particularly noted the help received from the
U.S. Congress in structuring the ways for the parliamentary standing committees
to work most effectively.

In reply, Dreier said this was
his third visit to Mongolia and every time he comes he is impressed by how the
roots of democracy have taken firmer roots in the country. In this connection, he
felt the proposal to set up a center to train parliamentary officials was a very
good idea.

The delegation also met with
J.Sukhbaatar and Ya.Batsuuri, heads of the Standing Committee on State Structure,
and on Security and Foreign Policy respectively.
